Toothpick

It took us a week to plan, two days to shoot, and a year to release. Hope you guys like it.
Here it is…

Thoughts on SOPA

I live in a country that does not give a fuck about the law. It says it does, but really, it doesn’t. The courts are a grand joke, the police are a joke, in fact nearly all governmental institutions are a laugh a minute buckets of piss ridden with the disease of corruption. You can download movies and albums without any fear of consequences whatsoever. All Russians do so, and I am no exception, but I do have an iTunes account through which I purchase music and support the artists that I listened to after I downloaded them illegally and I go to the movie theater about twice a week and pay those ridiculous prices. I do this because I know that in the end, no matter what we may think of ‘asshole executives’ and those hundred or so artists swimming in Scrooge McDuck style pools of cash and gold bullion, there are millions of people who work in the entertainment industry who can’t afford pools, and their jobs depend on us buying their products and not just enjoying them for free. The whole ‘it’s not really stealing’ scenario is just as bullshit as the stupid ‘you wouldn’t steal a car, would you?’ campaign. There is a middle ground that studios and labels have fought tooth and nail not to see as an option. Since Napster in 1999, music sales have dwindled and artists have become way more dependent on income from tours and various merch, while all the labels just cried about it. None of them began to embrace the new medium of the internet until it was too late. It’s an interesting world we are living in, in which no one can predict the outcome of the entertainment piracy wars.

This doesn’t mean that they won’t try to just fuck everything up in a childish tantrum to bring back what cannot be brought back. Their monopoly is gone and they need to evolve. Instead they’ve come up with SOPA. Basically, under the guise of defending intellectual property, which is a needed thing, they’re trying to push a law that will change the face and soul of the internet forever. And not in a good way. If this gets passed, it will pretty much be like Luke joining up with Vader for ‘the good of the galaxy’ at the end of Empire Strikes Back. Let’s not sit on our hands while Luke loses his, okay?

Got enough drums there buddy?

Photobucket

Last night we played @ Duma, a cozy little place in the heart of the city. It also marked the debut of our new and improved electro-live drumset, which you can see in the photo above. We played a very long set and tried out our video art for the first time live as well, courtesy of my good friend VJ N. Lots more photos after the jump.

Burning Hot Autumn

That headline sounds like a generic emo band but no, it isn’t. With our Insane Office Escape racking up over 1,500,000 views worldwide, Biting Elbows have reached an audience that has responded with wonderful feedback that gave us an even bigger drive than before. For that, we thank each and everyone of you who have watched, commented, friended, tweeted, shared, subscribed and liked our work.

To keep you updated: we’re very close to shooting two quite ambitious videos and putting the finishing touches to the album art.
Also: we’re playing a solo show in a very comfortable Moscow club called Duma next Saturday, the 22nd of October.

‘The Stampede’ stampedes to 300,000 views in 3 days!

We always presumed that the video was gonna be well received but the reaction has been overwhelming to say the least. Tweets are flying in from all over the world and Biting Elbows just love to make friends, so don’t hesitate to like us on facebook (the FB tab is on the right, for your convenience) and follow us on Twitter.

Of course, if you dig what we’re doing, support the band and purchase our debut EP on iTunes or if you’re less of an Apple kinda person, go to Amazon MP3. Thanks!

The Summer of The Stampede

It was a beautiful summer over here in the Motherland. While most people enjoyed reckless parties and walks in the countryside, Biting Elbows spent most weekends falling down laughing at each other falling down. My good friend and parkour specialist Sergei Valyaev borrowed my camera for stunt practice and when I saw the results, I grabbed him by his hair and dragged him kicking and screaming to a nearby office to make this music video. We got actor Andrei Dementiev, whom I’ve worked with on TV before as a special guest and he put up with having to wear the mustache while we got our act in order. So, a big thanks goes out to his patience. I must also bow down to Anatoly and Ivan, who organized the shoot on the luxurious boat, and a HUGE thanks to all of the volunteers who spent hours on hot roofs and stuffy offices. We’ve had a blast making it, and I know you’ll have a blast watching it. Enjoy!

September 23, 2011 We Play at SQUAT, Moscow

Hollywood Sad Core, obviously.

Okay, the video sends mixed signals. The juxtaposition of old timey L.A. moods and her singing at home is not a great one. At least they should have corrected her colors to fit the other scenes more. However, none of what I just said matters, the song is beautiful, she is beautiful and everything is just peachy. Enjoy.
